Giving the smokers of the world something to blaze up to, veteran rapper Smoke AKA Chevy P launches his solo career with his FBMG-released debut single and hypnotizing video “4:20 On Da Dot.” He is also set to drop his solo street album KANG!
Atlanta, Ga.-After a decade in the game, multi-platinum accolades and even a Grammy nomination as one half of Georgia-based duo Field Mob, legendary rapper Smoke AKA Chevy P embarks upon a high-flying solo career with his recent FBMG-released debut single and hypnotizing video “4:20 On Da Dot.”
The catchy, infectious song is dedicated to “National Smoke Day” celebrated on April 20. Atop a laid-back, mellow groove, Smoke delivers a smokers’ soundtrack for connoisseurs of green, sticky leaves to smoke to daily- preferably at “4:20 On Da Dot.” Potent enough to make Cheech and Chong proud, Smoke testifies his love for the bud.
“America is stressed out and depressed. What better way to relieve stress than to smoke marijuana,” Smoke explains. “If doctors can legally prescribe medical marijuana in California, why can’t they legalize it in the rest of the states? 4/20 everyday!”
Directed by Randy Cabrera for Status Industries, the video and single are just the first hit from Smoke’s upcoming street album KANG! due this summer. The album features cameos from T-Pain, Trae Tha Truth and Yung Joc, among others.
“I got a lot of surprises on KANG! that show my many different sides,” says Smoke. “I haven’t changed much at all. I’ve just expanded my style. The fans know what to expect from me and I won’t let them down.”
Born Darion Crawford, the rapper better known as Smoke started his music career in Albany, Ga., a small town just outside of Atlanta. As a member of Field Mob with fellow rapper Shawn Jay, the duo signed their first national recording deal with MCA Records in 2000 and later that year, released their debut album 613: Ashy to Classy. Their follow-up From tha Roota to tha Toota came in 2002. And in 2006, they dropped the well-received album Light Poles and Pine Trees.
Now on a musical venture all his own, Smoke lights up an intoxicating solo career with his FBMG-released debut single and video “4:20 On Da Dot.” And with the summer release of his street album KANG!, he proves once again that when there’s Smoke, there is definitely that fire! Second-hand smoke kills, so make sure you cop that real Smoke!
